On September 15, 2016, Tim Davey, Ph.D. was named interim dean in the School of Social Work. Davey had been the vice provost in the Office of Faculty Recruitment and Retention (OFRR) since September 2012, when it was first established in the Office of the Provost. The primary mission of the office is to recruit and retain the best, most talented and diverse faculty to facilitate the development of VCU as a top 50 public research institution. Prior to moving to this new office, Davey had been a senior faculty member in the VCU’s School of Social Work and a respected national scholar well known for his professional role in advancing community-based research and scholarship. Davey came to VCU in 2000 from the University of Tennessee. Davey has served in a variety of administrative positions within the School of Social Work; including director of field education and the associate dean for research and community engagement. In his capacity as associate dean, Davey was profoundly immersed in the human service community within the region and beyond, coordinating all research and community-based projects and oversees faculty research development within the School of Social Work. His scholarship focused on community case management and the impact of weekend retreats for at-risk families; on their quality of life and access to needed services. Notably serving as principal investigator on six community-based projects totaling over $750,000 in funded work.
