Putting experience to practice
“I authored the textbooks that we use, and I complement that information in the field seminars I arrange. I work with leading, nationally prominent think-tanks and advocacy organizations such as the Center for Law and Social Policy the Children’s Defense fund, and research organizations, so the students get to talk to many policy analysts and researchers analyzing public policy and leveraging it in Congress.
“Much of my work is around bringing social work into the 21st century in regard to social welfare policy. We have a considerable wealth of knowledge with regard to social processes, and we’re in the process of reinventing the welfare state general speaking. Social workers will be better positioned to engage in that discussion if they are more informed about the actors and processes involved in levering public policy. That’s what I’m about. And my students take to that quite readily.”
