Realizing potential
“When people first come to me – whether a current student or a prospective student – I always begin the conversation by asking them, ‘What is it that brings you to social work? There are plenty of majors that you can choose from … why social work?’
“99 percent of them start out with a similar response: ‘I want to help people. I want to positively impact somebody else’s life. I’ve always known that.’
“So when I look at what the social work profession does and what this program offers, it’s about learning a specific set of skills that will enable students to positively impact other people in this world in a lot of different ways. If I can do that through encouraging students and tapping into what their potential is, then I know I’ve done my job.”
