B.S.W. Program
Admission requirements
Students new to the university may declare social work as their major when they apply to VCU. They are classified as lower-level SLW students, signifying that they are completing the required general education pre-professional curriculum classes. Upon completion of these requirements and junior standing (54 credit hours earned), students meet with their adviser to prepare the application for upper-level classes. A student must have earned a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application. In addition, to gain admission to the professional curriculum, students must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in UNIV 111-112 and ENGL 200 and a "B" in SLWK 201 and SLWK 230. When a student’s application is approved, their classification is changed to B.S.W. and they are able to register for 300- and 400-level courses in the major.
Information and forms for the application for admission to upper-level course are available in the Office of Student Services, Room 107, or in the information rack outside the office door.
Transfer students
Transfer students may be granted provisional admission contingent upon their meeting the requirements and completion of 15 credits at VCU.
Applications for admission to upper-level courses are available in the B.S.W. Program office and from the academic adviser.
